Graffitti Art ain't no Vandalism
--------------------------------
Hello folks The Joker here to tell you a little something about
"Graffitti Art'. Graffitti Art started back as far as the 1960's
in America. Although it wasn't a big as it is today it originated
from then onwards.
There are two types or Graffitti Artists The Taggers and the real
artists the Piecers. Each artist has his or hers own tag sign
or signature which normally has a unique style or feature. The main
idea is to get your 'TAG' up in as many places as possible and
especially in the most dangerous places possible so no on else may
be able to reach this place. Although this in fact has no talent
what so every it still graffitti art.
A piece is a big piece of art done on a wall by an Artist in spray-
can and may be an image of what your imagination allows it to be.
It may comprise of a word or message, a character or even both.
These can range from any size the bigger the better.
The aim of all this graffitti art is to be the most elite artist
in your town or city, to be the King. This may be achieved by
getting your tag in almost every place possible and creating your
own style of artwork. Lamers on the graffitti scene are known
as toys and they may be shit at art so they byte other people
style of drawings, even a who piece by someone and the ultimate
lamer will tag over other people's artwork which can be very
annoying.
I myself am a graffitti artist and going under the same name
I do on the computer 'JOKER'. I have only been involved in this
about 3 years as real graffitti didn't hit Cork till 1990.
At first I was a tagger taking anything I could it becomes a form
of obsession to see you name on as many people as possible.
For example the main Street in my city is Patrick's St. and I
used to tag poles, boxes, bins etc. all along this street so that
everyone in the city could see my tag. I later then started to
do something creative like pieces. At first your pieces will
not be great although the first piece was my most pleasureable
piece every. The idea is to create a style which may be influenced
by another artist which then may influence some other artist.
I was caught tracked down grassed on and it all led to a big
court case which cost me a $1,200 fine. Even though I have to pay
this much money it was still all worth it as it is like the computer
scene you make friends in different countries and you are always
living on the edge.
There is also a legal side to this graffitti art which is getting
paid to do it. I now only do legal pieces for places such as
Nightclubs, record shops etc. and also a piece for an aids alliance
cause.
Since I've just started I can't ask for very high rates but there
are people up the country getting $500 a piece and one guy in
Scotland gets thousands of pounds for doing his art. It makes
you think for an art that's so Wrong and supposed to be
vandalism people pay an awful lot of money to get their
hands on it.....
Peace to all Graffitti Artists all over the globe
Special Greetz to all members of TDA,TVS and you
Go With A Smile
